About us
Angling365 is an independent fishing blog, launched by former Angling Times editor, John Kelly.
I come from a family of anglers, although as the oldest of four boys the passion for angling in the Kelly household obviously started with me.
At the very tender age of 5, sitting on the towpath of the Grand Union Canal near our home town of Luton, winkling out that most obliging of fish, the gudgeon, brought me immense pleasure. And so my love affair with angling was born.
Little did I know, however, that as I continued to fish through school and college - then while embarking on a career in journalism with local and national newspapers - that my passion for angling would lead me to one of the loftiest positions in the sport.
In 1997, I became editor of Angling Times, a truly incredible coming together of my favourite pastime and a career I loved. Although it was a brief time at the helm (I was headhunted to help launch digital businesses in the internet boom of the 2000s) I did make AT full-colour for the first time in its history. A small legacy at least!
Sadly, chasing the coprporate dollar saw golf replace fishing as my #1 hobby, although I still managed to wet the occasional line - chasing rainbows at Rutland Water and Eyebrook near home. The arrival of a beloved daughter in 2008 meant family time became even more precious, so my fishing took a huge back seat until I turned 60 last year.
With semi-retiremement looming, the chance to combine two of the greatest loves in my life - writing and fishing - resurfaced, so here we are. A blog about angling and tackle which, if you stumble upon, I hope you enjoy.
Tight lines! JK
